_ .-"7-
"i,' f u.: "I
""t.UIf\.'

.

Four pumping plants will be required to lift the water from Pueblo
Dam to Colorado Springs and other entities. There will be two
forebay tanks, two surge tanks, two regulating tanks, five air
chambers, and four terminal storage tanks. (See Figure 11-2 Proposed
Conduit and Facilities.)

The south outlet works for municipal water deliveries at Pueblo Dam
is a multilevel outlet works which will provide a means of control
for water quality.

Pumping Plant No.1 will be located in the northeast quarter of
Section 36, Township 20 South, Range 66 West. The total dynamic
head will be about 420 feet. Pueblo Reservoir will be the forebay
for this pumping plant. An air chamber and a surge tank will be
required to control pressure surges in the pipeline. The air chamber
will he located adjacent to the pumping plant and the surge tank
will be located on high ground approximately 1.7 miles north of the
pumping plant in the southwest quarter of Section 19, Township 20
South, Range 65 West. The tank will be approximately 15 feet in
diameter and about 65 feet above ground. Figure 11-3 is an illus-
tration of a surge tank similar to those that will be installed
along the proposed conduit.

.

Pumping Plant No. 2 will be located approximately 7 miles north of
U.S. Highway 50 in the southwest quarter of Section 5, Township 19
South, Range 65 West, and will have a forebay tank and an air chamber
at this same location. The forebay tank will be approximately 90
feet in diameter and 25 feet above ground. A surge tank approxi-
mately 15 feet in diameter with a height of approximately 115 feet
above ground will be located on a ridge approximately 5 miles north
of pumping Plant No. 2 approximately on the north quarter corner of
section a, To,'nship 1 R ~ollt~ange 65 West. The total dynamic
head for Pumping Plant No.2 will be approximately 540 feet.

Pumping Plant No. 3 will be located at a proposed Fountain Valley
Authority Purification Plant located in the southeast quarter of
Section 19, Township 16 South, Range 65 West. The finished water
reservoir of the planned water treatment facility will serve as
a forebay tank. An air chamber will be located at the pumping
plant. The total dynamic head for Pumping Plant No. 3 will be
approximately 230 feet. The afterbay of Pumping Plant No.2 will be
the forebay for the proposed water treatment facility. This combina-
tion afterbay-forebay will be a tank about 90 feet in diameter and
25 feet above ground. It will be a Bureau of Reclamation facility.

.

II-4
