C1 r.
,.... ,.-,..; ,
':'~'"' ~,

A control cable would have been directly buried in the conduit right-
of-way for remote control of the pumping plants. The control center
may have been located in the Canon City water treatment plant.

.

Pumping plant 1 would have been located adjacent to an existing
road. However, access roads would have been required from existing
roads to the other pumping plants and other major structures.
Access over existing farm roads would have been used for some
operation and maintenance work. An additional five miles of 14.0
foot wide roads was needed for operation and maintenance purposes.
This would have required clearing of about 28 acres.

Clearing for pipeline, pumping plants, and other structures would
have totaled about 440 acres.

A temporary easement averaging about 100 feet wide along the conduit
alinement would have been needed for construction. A permanent
easement about 60 feet wide would have been acquired. Anditional
easements would have been required at major structures. Lands for
structures would have been secured in Fee Title.

B. Revised Proposal

The proposed Fountain Valley Conduit will begin at the south outlet
works of Pueblo Dam and will terminate near the existing Stratmoor
Hi lIs water storage tank adj oining the south edge of Colorado Springs.
(See Figure 11-1 Fountain Valley Conduit.) The conduit will carry .
an average of 20,100 acre-feet of water annually. It will be
designed to carry a maximum of about 31 ft3/s through pipe sizes up
to 42 inches in diameter. The length of the mainline conduit will be
approximately 38 miles with the Widefield-Fountain-Security lateral
approximately 7 miles in length and 14 to 24 inches in diameter.
The conduit will be buried the entire length with an average cover
of five feet. Bedding material from a commercial source may be used
in the trench and compacted around the pipe. Excavated soils not
used in the trench will be spread evenly over the disturbed area.
Rock suitable for riprap will be used for erosion control. All
other rock will be disposed of in designated waste areaS. It is not
anticipated that the work herein described will require a National
Pollution Discharge Elimination Permit. However, if the contractor
proposes activity requiring such a permit, the contractor will be
required to secure a permit prior to initiation of such activity.

II-2

.
