Hbmestake Lake.--Located in the steep-sided Middle Homestake <br />Creek Valley, at an elevation of about 10,000 feet, is Homestake Lake, <br />a naturallllOuntain lake. (See plate V.) It is rather long and narrow <br />and about 50 aeres in area. There is sufficient depth to prevent win- <br />ter Idll, blIIt there is enough shallow area to produce an abundance of <br />aquatic organisms. Adequate spawning grounds are present in Middle <br />Fork of Homastake Creek upstream from the lake. <br />Vtilizatfon <br />18. !:J!:cept for about 2 miles of posted land downstream :from Gold <br />Park, Homestake Creek receives heavy use. Many campsites situated <br />along the r(!8.d paralleling the stream are occupied almost continuously <br />through the SUllIIIlElr months by people :from many parts of Colorado and <br />several other states. The stream is wide and the banks are devoid of <br />tall brush and timber in enough places topermit easy fishing. The <br />tribl1taries ,of Homestake Creek are lightly fished since the fish are <br />Small and access is difficult. Homestake Lake, although not easily <br />accessible, receives moderately heavy fishing pressure, and the camp- <br />sites are weil used. <br />Effects of Fro:leJrl; <br />19. Streams.-French, Fancy, and Missouri Creeks, and the East <br />and Middle Forks of HOlllestake Creek will be intercepted by the collec- <br />tion system. The depletions in now on these streams will reduce <br />their value as trout llabitat. Most seriously threatened in this way, <br />however, is Home stake Creek to which the 5 streams are tribl1taries. <br />20. Homestake Lake.-The fishery value of Homestake Lake will <br />be eliminated by the proposed' impoundment. The habitat provided in <br />
