Q
("-)
.....
.....
t.I,~
1M-

Power plant installation and transmission costs are estimated to
increase from about 800 million dollars in the 1966-1980 period. to
17,000 million dollars in the 2001-2020 period; while annual opera-
tion, maintenance, and replacement costs are est:lmated to increase
from about 6 million dollars in 1980 to 660 million dollars in
2020.' These costs are based on 1965 price levels. Present (1971)
price levels are substantially higher than those prevailing in
1965.

Future thermal power plants and transmission systems in the
Lower Colorado Region would be planned, designed, and constructed so
that any adverse effects on the environment will be minimized.
Thermal power plants would include cooling towers as well as equip-
ment for reducing particulate matter and other air pollutant stack
emissions. It is expected that these measures to protect the
enviro\'llllent will be costly, and will be reflected in increased costs
of electrical energy to the consumer.

This appendix includes an addendum showing a staging of power
development based on the Economics Work Group's much lower estimate
of future Lower Colorado 'Region electric power requirements.

iii
