.:!ws

III. Study Goals, Objectives, End Product:

The Ouray National Wildlife Refuge, which includes Johnson Bottom,
Leota Bottom, Wyasket Bottom, Sheppard Bottom, and Old Charlie Wash,
consists of over 3,750 acres of floodplain habitat within a I5-mile
segment of the Green River. Johnson Bottom is approximately 250
acres; Wyasket is 850 acres; Sheppard is 720 acres; all are
floodplain depressions. These sites are being proposed for
construction and management as a nursery habitat for larval
razorback suckers. I would recommend that the sites be designed
such that they are floodable, drainable, have outlet water control
structures, and fish kettles.

During the February 15, 1995, meeting in Grand Junction, Colorado,
members of the Biology Committee recommended that sites identified
by the flooded bottomlands inventory be re-ranked using alternative
and/or additional criteria (to be developed at the upcoming
facilitated meeting of May 25-26, 1995). If sites other than
Johnson, Wyasket, and Sheppard are deemed higher priority, then this
proposal will be implemented during FY 95 for the highest priority
sites.

Goal:

To restore Johnson, Wyasket, and Sheppard bottoms (or higher-
priority sites) to support recovery of razorback suckers.

End Product:

Management plans and preliminary design options.

IV. Description of past performance on this or similar projects:

Topographic mapping and HEC-2 models will be developed for the Ouray
sites in FY 95, for baseline hydrology/geomorphology, and to assist
in site design and construction. Old Charlie Wash has been
developed and is being repaired in FY 95. Leota L-7 will be
designed in FY 95 and constructed in FY 96 (subject to approval).

V.
