STREAMFLOW GAGE RECORDS

.

The United States Geological Survey, the United States Bureau of Recla-

mation, and the Colorado Division of Water Resources have established and

maintained over 20 stream gaging stations in the San Juan River basin above

Navajo Reservoir at one time or another. Flow records for each gage are reported

as "good," "fair," or "poor" where good indicates that the error in daily records

are less than ten percent, fair indicates that eITors are less than 15 percent,

and poor indicates errOrs are probably greater than 15 percent. A summary

of the gages are listed in Table I. Streamflow gaging stations of particular

interest are described below. Monthly summaries of the stream flow records

for the 1951-1980 study period are presented in Appendix A.

.

.

.

San Juan River at Pagosa Springs
The gage is located in Pagosa Springs 0.2 mile upstream from McCabe
Creek and 0.6 mile downstream from the bridge on U.S. Highway 160, in Section
13, Township 35 North, Range 2 West, and has a 298 square mile drainage area.
The period of record is October 1910 through December 1914 and May 1935
through 1985. Records are reported to be good. Significant irrigation occurs
upstream from the gage.

.

.

San Juan River near Can-acas

The gage is located three miles northwest of Can-acas, just upstream

from the inlet to Navajo Reservoir and 7.2 miles upstream from the Fiedra

River, in Section 17, Township 32 North, Range 4 West. The drainage basin

is approximately 1,230 square miles. The period of record is October 1961 through

1985. Gage records are reported as good with the exception of the winter period,

which are poor. Significant irrigation occurs upstream from the gage as well

as major transbasin diversions from the river.

.

.

San Juan River at Rosa

The gage was located one mile north of Rosa, New Mexico, 0.25 mile

downstream from the mouth of the Fiedra River and 0.9 mile upstream from

-5-

.

li.<
