<br /> <br />0697 <br /> <br />32 <br /> <br />Section IV <br />The Post Congressional Period 1962~ <br /> <br />The Fryingpan-Arkansas Project was approved and signed <br />by President Kennedy on August 16, and upon the urging of Frank <br />Hoag Jr. the President decided to coma to Pueblo and make a <br />presentation and speak upon his reclamation and water development <br />103 <br />programs and on August 17, 1962, the President came to Pueblo <br />on behalf of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. <br />Now that the Project was authorized it seemed that the <br /> <br />work was just beginning. <br />Project, however, until a <br /> <br />No construction could begin on the <br />104 <br />Repayment Contract was drawn up. <br /> <br />The formation of this Repayment Contract took almost two years <br />and was approved on January 21, 1965. Now that this contract <br />was established and signed the actual construction of the Pro~ <br />105 <br />ject could now begin. <br />The Repayment of funds to the Federal Government for <br />the building of the project is financed by four major methods: <br />(1) the selling of Pro,ject Water to customers in nine <br />counties of Southeast Colorado <br /> <br />(2) the sale of storage space in Pueblo Reservoir to irri- <br />gation companies be19w (east of) Pueblo. <br />(3) the sale of hydroelectric power by the Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />103 <br />Hoag, p. 135. <br />104 <br />Thomson, p. 162. <br />105 <br />,Beise, p. 6. <br />
