<br />Alternative in Column 3 - The alternative shown in this column is similar <br /> <br /> <br />to the one in Column 2, in that Animas River water would be stored in <br /> <br /> <br />Ridges Basin Reservoir and Southern Ute Reservoir. About 65 percent of <br /> <br /> <br />the power required would be produced by the Animas Powerplant in this plan <br /> <br /> <br />also. The only difference is that La Plata River water would be stored <br /> <br /> <br />in Parrott Reservoir instead of Hay Gulch Reservoir. All project lands <br /> <br /> <br />would be sprinkler irrigated. The map on the following page shows this <br /> <br /> <br />plan. <br /> <br />By using Parrott Reservoir the 6,000 acres above Ridges Basin Canal <br /> <br /> <br />would receive a full ~ater supply throughout the irrigation season. The <br /> <br /> <br />owners of this land have the earliest priorities and largest flow rights <br /> <br /> <br />on the La Plata River; therefore, these people would have little reason <br /> <br /> <br />to participate in the project unless they received a full water supply. <br /> <br /> <br />If they do not participate in the project, they would continue to over <br /> <br />irrigate during spring runoff. The project, however, could store this <br /> <br />water and distribute it out over more acres during the irrigation season. <br /> <br />Without these landowners participation, more project water would have <br /> <br />to be pumped from the Animas River. <br /> <br />" <br />
