003229

Memo to Executive Subcommittee, PSIAC
Page 3
September 15, 1981

Special Report - San Juan - Chama Project

Mr. Bill Miller of the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission gave
a report on the San Juan-Chama project, a USBR water development project
which diverts water from tributaries in the headwaters of the San Juan
River in Colorado and delivers them to the Chama River (Rio Grande
System) in northern New Mexico. The project was constructed .in the late
1960's, and involves about 102,000 acre-feet. A most interesting aspect
of the project is the precise record keeping required to insure that the
imported water can be distinguished from the water of the Rio Grande
system when determining Compact entitlements.

List of Publications

The draft list of PSIAC publications was discussed, and it was
decided to give PSIAC members until October 9 to request additions or
corrections. After that date, the Utah Division of Water Resources will
finalize the list and distribute copies.

Election of Chairman

The Executive Subcommittee agreed to defer the election of a new
chairman until a decision is reached concerning the future of PSIAC.
(Barry Saunders, whose term as Chairman expires September 30, will be
unable to continue serving as Chairman in the interim.)

The Subcommittee recommended that PSIAC contact the Department of
Interior and request a policy decision from them concerning interagency
committees such as PSIAC. (Under the present PSIAC charter, PSIAC ia "
. . a regional instrumentality under the aegis of the Water Resources
Council.")

B-9

..li._ _.'
-ie" ,_"'; :!..~
