<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CHAPTER I <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />provided cost-sharing payments from the Agricultural Conservation Program <br /> <br />(ACP) to assist farmers and ranchers in installing many needed conserva- <br /> <br />tion measures on their land. While this program currently has limited <br /> <br />funding, should SCS studies go forward into implementation, the ACP <br /> <br />program would be the vehicle to provide assistance ~ to operators for <br /> <br />installing needed structural measures. <br /> <br />Fish and wildlife Service <br /> <br />The Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting studies in the McElmo <br /> <br />Creek area on the fish and wildlife habitat and population. The results <br /> <br />will be used to prepare a report under the Fish and wildlife Coordination <br /> <br />Act and to recommend a program of mitigation and enhancement in the <br /> <br />McElmo Creek Unit area. <br /> <br />Participation in the Study <br /> <br />Agencies participating in the study include the Fish and Wildlife <br /> <br />Service, Soil Conservation Service, Bureau of Land Management, Agricul- <br /> <br />tural Stabilization and Conservation Service , Colorado Division of <br /> <br />Wildlife, Colorado Water Conservation Board, Southwest Water Conservancy <br /> <br />District, New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission, Montezuma Valley <br /> <br />Irrigation Company, Dolores Water Board, City of Cortez, Montezuma <br /> <br />County Commissioners, Montezuma County Planning Commission, Dolores <br /> <br />Water Conservancy District, Ute Mountain Ute and Navajo Indian Tribes, <br /> <br />New Mexico Public Service Company, and the Arizona Public Service <br /> <br />Company. Also participating are the Dolores Soil Conservation District <br /> <br />and Colorado-Ute Electric Association, Inc.
