The additional opportunity provided to the states by the Hater
Supply Act of 1958; the utilization of this authority by some of the
Basin states. L1terest in provicting for municipal water supply storage
for future use in structures scheduled for early;construction is
increasing.

Criteria for evaluating water resource projects.

Channel degradation problems below the Garrison Dam. Studies on
this proble.'ll are continuing.

The process and progress in the experimental production of gas
from lignite.

Present trends and policies regarding recreational developments.

The status and progress in stream pollution control of certain
streams.

The Area Redevelopment Program was presented for information and .
consideration of the Committee.

The Yellowtai1 Dam and its multipurpose functions were observed on
site and discussed. Associated with this water resource development is
the proposed National Recreation Area in the Big Horn River Valley in
~lontana.

The status of the programs are presented by designations that are
arbitrarily selected for purposes of brevity. Some explailation is
considered necessary to define the kinds of works of improvement in-
cluded in some of the designations. "Dams" includes only those con-
structed by the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation. Items
included for the Bureau of Reclamation are limited to the lussouri River
Basin Project. Exclusions, among others, are Colorado-Big Thompson
Units located in the Missouri Basin. The status of works of improvement
in operation and under construction are as follows:
