The increased capacity would be accomplished through the
installation of new lifts, the replacement of existing lifts with lifts of higher
capacity, and the development of new ski terrain and support facilities.

3. COMPARISON OF MASTER PLAN COMPONENTS

a. Expansion

Expansion into the currently undeveloped portion of the permit area would occur
in Alternatives E-H and consist of lift and ski terrain development of varying
amounts on Burnt Mountain and lift and ski trail connections to a second,
access/egress portal at East Village. Upper Burnt Mountain use in Alternative
H would be limited to powder skiing. Table 8-5 compares the Burnt Mountain
expansions proposed in Alternatives E-H.

Alternative

Terrain Develonment

Table 8-5: Burnt Mountain/East Village Expansion, Alternatives E-H

Conunents

Lifts]

E

Five

150 acres partial clearing2
545 acres full clearing

F

Four

320 acres partial clearmg:
240 acres full clearing

G

340 acres partial clearini"
290 acres full clearing

Four

H

30 acres of partial clearing"
55 acres of full clearing

One

Full-mountain trail development; access via Burnt Mt. and Tiehack
gondolas and two high-speed lifts; egress to East Village; extensive
hiking and mountain biking trail system; summit gondola programs

Tiehack gondola mid-station at eastern edge of pennit
boundary. Lifts

Summary . 17

The total number of lifts, including two ski school surface lifts, would remain
at 16 in Alternatives A and Bj increase by one to 17 in Alternative H; increase
by two to 18 in Alternative G; and increase by four to 20 in Alternative E and
F. Five existing lifts would be unchanged in all alternatives. Lifts are listed
by alternative in Table 8-6.

Either a one or two-stage gondola (2,500 skiers/hour capacity) would be installed
in all action alternatives. While the actual alignment of this lift is different
among the action alternatives, the gondola system would serve a similar purpose
to provide high capacity, enclosed transportation from a portal area to upper

,.
