<br />co <br /> <br />'~::f' <br />v-I <br />:J <br />c:) <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />Development of recreational and Fish and Wildlife <br /> <br />facilities at the Head San Luis Lakes Area. <br /> <br />5) Fish and Wildlife enhancement. <br /> <br />Water provided by the project will be pumped from an uncon- <br /> <br />fined ground water aquifer in the Closed Basin and delivered by a <br /> <br />conveyance channel to Rio Grande. <br /> <br />The ground water to be provi- <br /> <br />ded is presently being lost through evapotransporation. <br /> <br />The pro- <br /> <br />ject will develop in stages over a 10-year period. <br /> <br />Water produc- <br /> <br />tion information from each stage will be used to determine well <br /> <br />field designs and yield projections for the following stage. <br /> <br />An average of about 100,600 acre-feet per year is the pump <br /> <br />yield objective. <br /> <br />Of that quantity, 5,300 acre-feet will be <br /> <br />delivered to the existing Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge and <br /> <br />the Blanca Wildlife Habitat Area; about 5,500 acre-feet will be <br /> <br />lost (evaporation and maintenanc'e losses); and the remaining <br /> <br />89,800 acre-feet will be delivered to the Rio Grande annually. <br /> <br />The project was authorized for construction, operation and <br /> <br />maintenance bY the Secretary of Interior by Public Law 92-514, <br /> <br />92nd Congress on October 20, 1972. <br /> <br />The Feasibility Report for <br /> <br />the project was completed by the Bureau of Reclamation and <br /> <br />printed in House Document 91-369 dated July, 1970. <br /> <br />The Definite <br /> <br />Plan Report was completed in November, 1979. <br /> <br />-2- <br />
