<br /> <br />o <br /> <br />;) <br /> <br />N <br />--J <br />00 <br />m <br /> <br />The views of local interests were carefully considered <br />and investigations were made of all the streams listed above. <br />It was found that navigation needs exist in the three major river <br />basins and that construction of the authorized projects will. not <br />entirely fulfill those needs. The most beneficial waterways in- <br />vestigated were those advocated for the Red River and tributaries <br />between Shreveport, Louisiana, and Lone Star, Texas, and between <br />Shreveport and Texarkana, Arkansas-Tex~s. The economics of these <br />latter-named waterways are not sufficiently favorable to justify <br />early construction, but they warrant inclusion of the projects in <br />the long-range plan of development for the basins. Other projects <br />advocated for construction in the eastern portion of the basins <br />would have a beneficial effect on the areas involved, but the bene- <br />fits reasonably expected to accrue from the improvements would not <br />justify their undertaking by the Federal Government. <br /> <br />vi <br />
