The New Mexico Ecological Services Office, in concert with Ecological Services
Offices in the Utah and Colorado, has prepared the attached Environmental Assessment (EA)
to provide an analysis and assessment of impacts to the environment from the proposed plan.

The experimental stocking of Colorado squawfish in the San Juan River is a component of the
Federal, State, Tribal, and private San Juan River Basin Recovery Implementation Program for
endangered fish species in the San Juan basin. The stocking plan has been reviewed by
experts on the species and the San Juan River from all signatories to the Program, and has
been recommended for implementation by the Biology Committee of the Program.

Based upon the information in the EA, it has been determined that the decision to approve the
experimental stocking plan does not constitute a major Federal action having a significant
impact on the environment. Actions and impacts were evaluated using the best available data
and assumptions.

L[{L

ti~'""" Regional Director, Region 6

(0-11-'1 to
Date

fJL~.

~ 0 /; ~0

Date

Re
