Impact and Concern for Weldon Valley School <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Weldon Valley School (K-12). with 207 students enrolled, will <br /> <br /> <br />be inundated in the Narrows Projectl The district has in its employ 21 <br /> <br /> <br />teachers, 2 administrators and 16 support personnel (secretaries, cooks. <br /> <br /> <br />maintenance people, teachers aides and bus drivers). The proposed budget <br /> <br /> <br />for 1976 is $530,000 with a total bond indebtedness of $286,000, Assessed <br /> <br /> <br />valuation is $3.657,280. <br /> <br /> <br />On March II, 1974, the Board of Education of the Weldon Valley School <br /> <br /> <br />met with the Bureau of Reclamation and asked many questions. To date we <br /> <br /> <br />have not received any answers to the questions submitted. <br /> <br /> <br />1. Who dissolves the school district - the Board of Education. the <br /> <br /> <br />State Department of Education or the Government? <br /> <br /> <br />2. Will the students of the school district not affected by the <br /> <br /> <br />project be able to attend a school of their ohoice? <br /> <br /> <br />3. Who will pick up the bond indebtedness of $286,OOO? <br /> <br /> <br />4. Will the land owners not affected by the project have their part <br /> <br /> <br />of the indebtedness removed from their land when the school is <br /> <br /> <br />inundated? <br /> <br /> <br />5. How will the school facilities be disposed of and where will <br /> <br /> <br />this money go? <br /> <br /> <br />6. Will the teacher near retirement be forced to take an early <br /> <br /> <br />retirement? <br /> <br /> <br />7. Will teachers and other employees be compensated for their moving <br /> <br /> <br />and seeking other employment? <br /> <br />. <br />
