Spreading of the water would reduce effectiveness of <br /> <br />the supplemental water supplies and increase the number of years when <br /> <br />little or no water would be available in storage to provide a supplemental <br />supply." Note error - from additional water to interpretation to "irriga- <br />tion of an increased area of 55,000 acres." <br /> <br /> <br />This points out a peculiar change in attitude because in House Docu- <br /> <br /> <br />ment No. 320, Narrows Unit, Colorado, page 42, Riverside Pumping Plant, <br /> <br /> <br />"The computed shortage for the 22,909 acre service area of the Riverside <br /> <br /> <br />System averages 35,500 acre feet per year." A five-unit pumping plant <br /> <br /> <br />was proposed to provide supplemental water and that energy could be <br /> <br /> <br />supplied from the existing U. S. B. R. Greeley-Fort Morgan US-kilowatt <br /> <br /> <br />line. (Everyone is cognizant that NO hydro-electric power can be gener- <br /> <br /> <br />ated by the Narrows project.) Through this pumpage 17,000 acre feet of <br /> <br /> <br />supplemental water would enable the service area to be increased from <br /> <br /> <br />22,909 acres to some 27.000 acres. The proposal was refused by the <br /> <br /> <br />Riverside System. <br /> <br /> <br />Pumping to the Bijou Canal was also mentioned but "because hydrology <br /> <br /> <br />studies indicated that approximately the same quantity of water, 18,000 <br /> <br /> <br />acre feet per year oould be exchanged to the Bijou System and thus provide <br /> <br /> <br />the theoretical requirement to the 3J,900 acres of irrigable land served <br /> <br /> <br />by the system. Exchange of up-stream water cannot be effected because, <br /> <br /> <br />historically, up-stream water is not available "at the time of need." <br /> <br />. <br />
