00 ') l"
......,JJ

.

4a. Impact on Morgan County and State of Colorado

The 2) miles of South Platte River bottomland plus additional small

tributaries that would be lost to the Narrows Project provide a yearly
value estimated at $1,000,000 for hunting migratory waterfowl, pheasant,

quail, and deer plus fa.cilities for fishing, picnicing, camping, boating,

and hiking.

There are 28 businesses located in the proposed Narrows Project area,

many of which could not relocate in the surrounding area. The economic

value generated qy these businesses has not been established at this time;

but their loss, coupled with a loss of over $12,606,000 in gross income as

previously outlined in this statement, would adversely affect the economic

well-being of Morgan County and the surrounding area.

.

The Bureau of Reclamation, in its "Definite Plan Report of 1973",
attributes $1,6;1,500 to irrigation benefits, $552,200 to national and

local fish and wildlife enhancement, and $1,410,600 for recreational

benefits. This comes to a total of $;,694,;00 in benefits annually.

How can this figure justify an economic loss of over $12,606,000 to Morgan
County and surrounding areasl We don't think it canl

.
