Proposed changes from the FEIS plan would not significantly affect
wildlife resources, including endangered species.

9. Future recreation use of the canal corridor would not be precluded by
the recommended plan. The proposed fencing of boundary lines paralleling the
canal and the provision of gates and openings would facilitate recreation use
at some time in the future by helping adjacent landowners control trespass and
by restricting unauthorized vehicle use of the canal road. At the present
time, recreation is not an authorized use of the canal lands and this would
not change as part of the Salinity Control Project.

10. Other environmental parameters, such as soils, water quality, air
quality, cultural resources, and endangered species would not be affected by
the proposed changes from the FEIS.

11. The circulation of the draft EA to approximately 250 organizations
and individuals for review produced over 100 letters of comment. A summary of
the comments and responses appears in the final EA, and all comment letters
are available for inspection at the Reclamation's Grand Junction Projects
Office. Comments were generally in favor of lining the canal but stressed the
need to minimize land acquisition needs and the need to allow existing private
uses of the canal corridor. These issues and others are discussed in the
final EA and measures are included to reduce, but not eliminate, land
acquisition needs and to protect existing valid private uses of the canal
corridor.
