<br />SUMMARY--ANlMAs-LA PLATA PROJECT
<br />
<br />LOCATION: Southwestern Colorado and northwestern New Mexioo, San Juan
<br />River Basin.
<br />
<br />PLAN OF DEVELOmENT
<br />
<br />Teft Reservoir with an active capacity of 30,000 acre-feet would
<br />be created on the Animas River by a dam 22 miles upstream from Durango,
<br />Colo. Projeot irrigation water would be conveyed from Teft Reservoir
<br />to the project area, in the La Plata River Basin, by the Anillllls-La Plata
<br />Diversion Canal, 49.2 miles in length and with a capaoity of 600 seoond-
<br />feet. Two storage reservoirs would be created in the project area.
<br />Hay Gulch Reservoir with an active capaoity of 50,000 aore-feet would
<br />be served by the Animas-La Plata Diversion Canal and by exoess flood
<br />flows of La Plata River diverted into the same canal. Meadows Reservoir
<br />with an aotive oapaoity of 12,000 acre.feetwould be served by the
<br />Meadows Diversion Canal whioh,would divert return flows, flood flows,
<br />and releases from Hay Gulch Reservoir from La Plata River. The various
<br />project areas would be served by the Animas-La Plata Diversion Canal;
<br />the MoDermott and Ring Cone Canals, supplied by the Animas-La Plata
<br />Diversion Canal; the Red Mesa and Dry Side Canals, supplied by Hay
<br />Guloh Reservoir; Meadows Diversion Canal and canals supplied by fJieadows
<br />Reservoir. Existiaq laterals, enlarged as necessary, would serve the
<br />presently irrigated lands. Laterals would be construoted to serve all
<br />project lands not presently irrigated. Project drainage would be pro-
<br />vided for both full and supplemental service lands.
