<br />SPEAKER RESUMES <br /> <br />rim Valliant is Extension Irrigation Specialist and <br />tesearch Scientist for Colorado State University <br />erving the Arkansas River Basin. Jim was raised in <br />rid west Texas. His appreciation for water began <br />vhile he was working with farmers for the ASCS. <br />im received his B.S, and M.S. in Agricultural <br />~ngineering from Texas Tech University. He spent <br />6 years working for the High Plains Research <br />~oundation in soil and water conservation, <br />rrigation and artificial groundwater recharge. Jim <br />erved as project fann manager for the Navajo <br />rrigation Project and as manager of the Foxley <br />'anns in southeast Colorado for the next ten years. <br />Ie joined the Colorado State University staff in <br />unary of 1991 working with new irrigation <br />hnology, salinity and BMPs. <br /> <br />Gates is an Associate Professor of Civil <br />ngineering at Colorado State University. He <br />rrently serves as Co-Director of the Colorado <br />stitute for Irrigation Management and Associate <br />. ectar fOf the International School for Water <br />eSQurces. He is a hydraulic and water resources <br />stems engineer with a specialization in irrigation <br />d drainage engineering. He has directed or co. <br />research and training projects with total <br />nding of over $2.5 million over the last nine <br />ars. Dr. Gates has worked in Egypt, India, Sri <br />and Australia on inigatiOD projects and <br />ght numerous courses in irrigation and drainage <br />gineering. <br /> <br /> <br />. Garcia is Associate Professor, Department of <br />emical and Bioresource Engineering at Colorado <br />te University, Ft. Collins, CO. He is also <br />tor, Integrated Decision Support Group, <br />lorado State University. Luis received his B.S. <br />M,s'V~de~ees from Texas A&M <br /> <br />University in Civil Engineer, and his Ph.D. from <br />University of Colorado at Boulder. His research <br />interests are in the area of development and <br />application of decision support systems to areas <br />dealing with water and natural resources. Dr. <br />Garcia has been involved in numerous projects <br />dealing with computer modeling of irrigation and <br />drainage, calculation of consumptive use from <br />agriculture. Luis has received numerous academic <br />honors, one of which is the 1999 Best Research <br />Paper Award for the Journal of Irrigation & <br />Drainage ASCE. <br /> <br />Jerry BuckIciter grew up on a fann in northeastern <br />Colorado. He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering <br />from the Univeersity of Colorado at Boulder, and an <br />M.S. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from <br />Colorado State University at Fort Collins. He has <br />worked as a consultant in the area of water rights <br />and water resource development Since 1983, he <br />has been employed by the USDA-Agricultural <br />Research Service (ARS) as an agricultural engineer <br />working with the Water Management Unit in Fort <br />Collins. His research interest include: on~farm <br />irrigation scheduling, monitor and control systems <br />for self-propelled irrigation systems, systems <br />engineering, variable application of water and <br />chemicals, and development of improved <br />management practices for precision farming. <br /> <br />Tim Steffens is Regional Range and Livestock <br />Specialist for Colorado State University <br />Cooperative Extension, Southeast Area He <br />received his B.S. in Ag Ed from Tarleton State <br />University, his M.S. in Animal Nutrition from <br />Texas Tech and his Ph.D. in Range Science from <br />CSU where he investigated the nutritional risk <br />associated with different levels of milk production <br />for range beef cows. While working for the USDA <br />Forest Service he made vegetation assessment and <br />grazing management recommendations for the <br />Timpas Grazing District of the Comanche National <br /> <br />Grasslands and Picketwire Canyonlands. He <br />work~ to help producers implement grazing <br />management plans and brush mangement as <br />extension project manager of the Seeo Creek Water <br />Quality Demonstration Project. He has practiced <br />Management Intensive Grazing Methods using his <br />own sheep.
