The Ruedi replacement reservoir on the western <br />slope, aoo..'e Basalt, was finished in 1968. The 5.4 mile tunnel, 10.5 feet <br />in diameter through the Continental . Qivide , was holed through last summer, <br />and is being concrete lined. 'The Pueblo Dam site has been cleared and <br />contract will be let soon for the first section of the dam. When this dam is <br />completed, a 30,000 a.i. recreational pool is expected to be retained, <br />and the natural Clow of Arkansas River water will be regulated through <br />this dam for irrigation and storage.Part of the repayment feature of this <br />project is based on storage of winter flows of the Arkansas. <br /> <br />Progress on the Trinidad project, which provides for flood con- <br />trol and irrigation, should have the outlet works complete this summer, <br />and if funds are available, the main earth works would soon follow. This <br />project provides 20,000 a.f. storage for irrigation, and 4,500 a.f. re- <br />creation pool, besides the Oood control feature. <br /> <br />The /\r111,)' Engineers expect to start a flood protection project near <br />Las Animas, consisting of a 9.6 mile dike on the south side of the Arkansas <br />above the mouth of the Purgatoire river, and some protection on the north <br />bank.
