The majority of the farms in the area are irrigated units. Irrigation water is obtained from canals serving the area and from wells. Many of the areas along the flood plain of the South Platte River are sub-irrigated. Compara- tively little dry land cropping is practiced. The majority of the land not irrigated is dry land pasture. Generally speaking, good cropping practices are followed. " IrnproveIIE nts, for the most part, appear to be well maintained. In common with most agricultur- al communities in this general area, the trend is toward larger operating units. This has resulted in the abandonment of a number of sets of farm improvements. The Towns of Weldona and Goodrich are situated within the area of the proposed fee taking. The Town of Orchard lies wholly within the flood easement area. These are all small communities that have shown little evidence of develop The proposed taking for the reservoir will include all or part of nine oil and gas fields. Seven of these fields are presently producing. Gathering lines, an oil pipe line and a natural gas line are situated within the reservoir area. Services Electric light and power services are available to the entire area. The Union Pacific Railroad, with a single line track, extends the full length of the reservoir. This railroad serves all of the communities in the proposed reservoir area.
