<br />i <br />i.l <br />) <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />'C.. <br /> <br />\. 3'?' ~ <br /> <br />SYNOPSIS <br /> <br />The 1975 Assessment of Water and Related Land Rcsources has <br />begun. It is a 3'h-year effort designed to identify and describe the <br />Nation's severe water problems. indicate priorities, and emphasize the <br />need to resolve those problems-whether existing or emerging-from <br />national and State-regional viewpoints. <br /> <br />The previous national assessment by the Water Resources <br />Council. completed in 1968, identified the then-emerging problems <br />and outlined a continuing assessment process. The 1975 Assessment <br />will identify the Nation's severe water and water-related problems in <br />more geographical detail and with greater regional and public partici- <br />pation. <br /> <br />The U.S. Water Resources Council conducts these assessments <br />within the functions assigned to it by the Congress in the Water <br />Resources Planning Act of ]965 (Public Law 89-80i. <br /> <br />The 1975 Assessment will be accomplished by the cooperative <br />activities of State, regional, and Fedcral agencies under the overall <br />direction of the Water Resources Council's National Programs and <br />Assessment Committee. Regional assessment activities will be <br />coordinated and conducted by selecte<: regional sponsors-one for <br />each of the Council's 21 water resource regions. <br /> <br />- <br />
