<br />"0 <br />- <br />N <br /> <br />,,... <br />i ~' <br />I..... <br />, <br /> <br />Animas-La Plata Discussions <br /> <br />"Stand Still" Agreement <br /> <br />The Animas - La Plata Project (the Project) is a proposed Bureau ofRecIamation <br />(Reclamation) project which would provide storage water to Southwestern Colorado and <br />Northwestern New Mexico. As currently conceived the project would provide water for the <br />sett1ement oftnbal water rights for the Ute Mountain Ute Indian and the Southern Ute Indian Tnbes, <br />as we11 as municipal and industriaJ and irrigation water to other citizens of Colorado and New Mexico <br />and the Shiprock community of the Navajo Nation. The project bas been the focus of continuing <br />controversy and litigation for many years. To resolve the disputes surrounding the project, Colorado <br />Governor Roy Romer and Lt. Governor Gail Schoettler have convened a disaJssion process <br />concerning the project among the various stakeholders. <br /> <br />The parties are entering this agreement to facilitate their participation within the process <br />established by Governor Romer and Lt. Governor SchoettIer. It is the intent of the parties that this <br />agreement will allow them to focus their resomces on resolving project related disputes within the <br />process. Unless tenninated or renewed by the parties, this agreement will remain in effect until Sunday, <br />...
