HISTORIC USE

V.1 studv Period

A 20-year study period of 1938 through 1957 was selected for
analysis. This represents a period of agricultural.use prior to
any changes of use decreed from the two ditches. The first change
of use of the pioneer Union ditch was decreed June 30, 1958. The
twenty year study period as reflected by the flow of Bear Creek at
Morrison is close to the long-term average of the gaged flows and
contains a variety of wet and dry years including the 1950' s
drought. In addition, aerial photo's, records of diversions, and
cropping patterns were readily available for this period.

V.2 Diversions

Historic diversions of the Pioneer Union Ditch and Hodgson ditch
for the 1938 through 1949 period were obtained from copies of the
water commissioner's notebooks at the State Engineers Office.
Diversion records for the years 1950 through 1957 were down loaded
from the state Engineer's water data bank.

V.2.1

Pioneer Union Ditch

Historic monthly diversions of the Pioneer Union Ditch for the
study period are summarized in Table 3. Historically diversions
occurred during the months March through November. The typical
diversion season, however, appears to be April through October.
The annual yields ranged from 988 af to 4,292 af with an average of
2,882 af per year.

. ..'
Lakewood's share attr~butable to the subJect water r~ghts (18.21%)
are summarized in Table 4.
