~7Lt.

C\J
0)
.-l
...,

SAVERr-rOT HOOK PROJECT

l'J."oject Plan

The SaveJ:y-Pot Hook PJ."oject would develop unused flows of the Little
Snake River a.nd i.ts tJ;ibutat;les Savery CJ."eek fJ:om the north and
SlateJ; CJ:eek fro~ the south, for iJ:J."igation of supple~ental and full
seJ:vice land, recJ:eation, fisheries enhancement, and flood control.

StoJ:age would be provided in Sandstone Reservoir Savery Creek in
Wyoming and in Pot Hook Reservoir on Slater Creek in Colorado. Two
conveyance systems would be constructed: the Dolan Mesa Canal and
laterals, to distribute water from Sandstone Reservoir to land north
of the Little Snake River, and the Pot Hook Canal and laterals from
Pot Hook Reservoir, to serve land south of the river. Distribution
would be made also through ex;lsting conveyance facilities ,that divert
water from Sa,very and Slater Creeks and the Little Snake River. Some
storage water released to the Pot Hook Canal would replace Willow
Creek water presently used below the canal alignment, making Willow
Creek water available by exchange to land above project facilities.

Recreation facilities consisting of combination camping-picnicking
units and a boat launching ramp with parking area would be provided
at each reservoir. Minimum pools that would sustain fisheries would
be provided in the reservoirs. Minimum flows for fish would be
maintained frOm Sandstone Dam to the Little Snake River, and reduc-
tion of high flows during spring runoff would improve the aquatic
environment in Savery Creek. Fishing easements on the willing to
sell ba.sis would be sought on 8 miles of Savery Creek for access
to the improved fishery. No releases for fish would be made'
to Slater Creek fro~ Pot Hook Reservoir, but easements would be
sought on about 7 miles of Slater Creek upstream from the reservoir
to cOmpensate for the loss of stream in and below the reservoir.

Flood control storage Space based on predictions of snowmelt would
be pJ:oVided in both reservoirs to reduce losses due to flood damage
from high spring runoff.

Plans for mitigating the impact on wildlife include purchasing land
to be managed intensively for wildlife habitat and managing the right-
of-way within the fenced J:eservoir boundaries for wildlife habitat.
Game crossings would be provided where needed on project conveyance
facilities. Fence materials would be made avai1ablefoJ; the building
of deeJ;-and elk-proof hay storage a):,"eas if they are desiJ."ed.
