42" In addition to those who came to the river primarily to enjoy the

sport of fishing a beoautiful, interesting, and productive trout stre8m, there

was a. significRnt number of persons who cg:tme with the fishermen but who did

not fish.. The relative number who did this was determined in the course of

our investig~tion of related economic data.. They ~lccounted for about 28 per-

cent of the persons comprising the fishing p8rties contRcted, or at least 868

persons am1ually, in addition to the more than 3,100 fishermen mentioned above"

The recreational use of the Colorado River and its immediate vicinity 'by these

persons waS a direct result of the recreation8l attraction Which induced the

majori~ of persons in the parties to visit the area~~trout fishing in the

Colora.do River. The number of recreational da.ys of use by these "nonfisher-

men, II as they have been termed, amounted to approximately 3 ,121 da.ys in 1948,

43" The total number of man=days spent in connection with use of the

Colorado River fishery below Granby Dam in both 1948 and 1949 are summarized

in Table 1, including both fisherman~days and "nonfishermanlW-days" Moreover,

for the purpose of indicating the actual fishing use of' the river, fisherman-

days have been subdivided into those on which he actually fished, designated

as "fishing days, n and those which he spent in travel and other recreational
