<br /> <br />C, I . ~ <br /> <br />003119 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Special accomplishments. <br /> <br />Preparation of a glossary of terms applicable to the phreatophyte <br />problem. <br /> <br />< ~-)< <br /> <br />OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS <br /> <br />In the subcommittee's report to the parent committee at the 61-4 <br />meeting in Las Vegas, the following were the stated objectives and <br />funotions of the subcommittee: . <br /> <br />1. To define the phreatopl-\yte problem and its relation to water <br />loss and salvage, sedimentation, flood oontrol, recreation, and other <br />uses both beneficial and non-beneficial. . <br /> <br />2. To determine the geographic extent of phreatophyte areas, <br />their composition and changes in vegetative oover and economio <br />importance of the various species. <br /> <br />3. To keep in close oontact with all phases of researoh and <br />oontrol aotivities 011 phreatophytes and evaluate the results obtained. <br /> <br />4. To coordinate research activities and avoid duplication inso- <br />tar as practicable, andt-o point out and stimulate research on problems <br />where1nformation and data are needed. <br /> <br />!, :,) <br /> <br />5. To serve as an authoritative source of information on the <br />phreatophyte problem, maintain liaison and a working relationship with <br />other groups, committees, or bodies concemed with the problem, such <br />as the Inter-Agency Weed Committee. <br /> <br />6. To take the lead in resolving the phreatophytic problem <br />either by devisingmethod.s of controlling the plants or by developing <br />inoreased beneficial uses for them. <br /> <br />1. To keep the parent committee and member agencies currently <br />informed of developments and of proposed projeots in the field of <br />phreatophytes . <br /> <br />a.To assemble ani ..maintain at a central point (Arizona State <br />University Library) a library of technical publioations dealing with <br />phreatophytes. <br /> <br />9.
