More than a th1 rd of the salt load ls thought to be lnduced by <br /> <br />drainage from lrrlgated lands onto highly saline groundwater deposits ln the <br /> <br />Upper Colorado Basln in Colorado. Utah and Wyomlng. Varlous publlc polley <br /> <br />lnltlat1ves are proposed to lnduce farmers to reduce dlscharges of thls <br /> <br /> <br />nonpo1nt pollutant. Taxes on water. water conservatlon subsldles and land and <br /> <br />water rights purchases are analyzed in a llnear programmlng framework.
