<br />~ <br />~ <br />.... <br />C"', <br /> <br />o <br /> <br /> <br />From the very beginning, all entities <br />involved with the Central Arizona <br />Project (CAP) have recognized that the <br />project had the potential to significantly <br />affect the plant and animal ecosystems of <br />central Arizona, To make sure that the <br />CAP took into consideration all living <br />things in the areas it passed through, <br />efforts were made to ensure that impacts <br />on wildlife and desert habitat were mini- <br />mized and that all legislation, such as the <br />Endangered Species Act and Bureau of <br />Reclamation regulations, were adhered to. <br />Biological studies were conducted to <br />detennine how plant and animal commu- <br />nities might be affected by the CAP and <br />how habitat loss could be significantly <br />offset. <br />Because animals will be drawn to the <br />CAP canal for water, many protective <br />measures were incorporated into the <br />design to reduce animal drownings. <br />Forty.five wildlife watering sites were <br />constructed away from the canal.
