~
o
""

cmPTER II

DESIGNS AND ESTIMATES

-J The present inlet structure below the tailrace of the power plant
on East Rifle Creek would be used. Present tunnels and siphons are iL
good condition and would require only minor repairs. COncrete bench
flumes would be provided through side hill sections where the lower bank
permits seepage and is in danger of failure, An existing flume would be
covered as protection from falling rocks. Precast concrete siphons 48
inches in diameter would bypass each of two slide areas. Wasteways,
drainage crossings, and a measuring flume would be installed.

The laterals that would divert from Grass Valley Canal to irrigate
Dry Elk Valley land would be constructed across gently slOp:ing land
requiring common excavation. The lateral to the north would have an
initial capacity ()f 20 second-feet and the southern lateral would have
a capacity of l2 second-feet. Each lat eral would be about 4 miles long.
'lUrnouts and other minor structures would be provided as needed.

Drains

An ()pen drain about 1.3 miles in length would be provided to drain
a s1lBll area on Harvey Mesa. Part of the drain would be in a natural
ilrainage channel and wOlld require only partial excavation. Depth of
the drain from average ground surface would be abOut lO feet with li to
1 side slopes.

Cost Estima te s

Gonstruction Costs

The construction cost of the Silt project is estimated at ~3,205,OOO
or $3,190,000 exclusive of nonreimbursable money expended for investi-
gations and surveys from the Colorado River pevelopment Fund. The esti-
mate is based on December 1949 prices and includes allowances for ene:i-
neering, overhead, contingencies, and rights-of-way.

The estimated construction costs of the various project features and
s'1IlUIlarized engineering data on the features are given in the table I'll the
f';U:nwinp: page.

15
