DescriPtion of the Ft. Lvon Canal Companv System <br /> <br />The Ft. Lyon Canal Company is a mutual irrigation company that supplies water for the <br />irrigation of approximately 92,600 acres in Otero, Bent, and Powers counties. Water is <br />distributed from the. Ft. Lyon Canal through more than 200 laterals along its 11 O-mile <br />length. Average ditch losses have been estimated at 18.24% and lateral losses at 10.00%. <br />In describing the Ft. Lyon Canal Company, we shall prepare a description of the physical <br />diversion, transmission, and water storage system; the organization structure; and annual <br />operating procedures. <br /> <br />Specific elements of Task 3A include: <br /> <br />. Describe the physical systems including all canals, reservoirs, and ancillary features. <br />Provide <l map of these facilities. <br /> <br />. List of th,~ historic diversions and depletions. Records compiled in the Kansas v. <br />Colorado . itigation will be utilized for our analysis. <br /> <br />Describr he conveyance losses, seepage and return flow patterns. <br /> <br />. Docum.. Ft. Lyon water rights, priorities, and yields, including storage under the <br />Pueblo mter water program at Pueblo Reservoir and at John,Martin Reservoir. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Descril <br />review <br />and tre <br /> <br />:ngated acreage, water use, and scheduling; identify the lateral network; <br />..; irrigation methods and efficiency; and describe the normal crop patterns <br />~_...ls. <br /> <br />Identify and describe ground water uses within the service area. <br /> <br />. Describe the water quality of the water supply at the Ft. Lyon headgate, water <br />quality of return flows after agricultural use, and water quality conditions for the <br />existing crop production. <br /> <br />Describe the organizational structure of the canal company and its relationship to <br />the 200 lateral companies. The contractual relationship with the Amity Canal <br />Company will also be documented through a review and summation of the articles <br />of incorporation and bylaws of these entities. Summarize major delivery contracts. <br /> <br />Existing maps and reports of the canal company, Kansas v Colorado exhibits, and <br />documents from the State of Colorado and USGS will be used to the maximum extent to <br />minimize the cost. <br /> <br />5 <br />
