Reservoir on the ~oaring fork Abel' near the town of Asp~, Oolorado.
The reservoir would be created by an earth fill dam about 90 feet in

height. The reservoir would have an active capacity of 28,000 acre-

feet and would inundate about 650 acres. The water stored in Aspen

Reservoir would be released during periods of low river flow, thus
preventing interference with the enjoY1llent of the rights of Western
Slope water users. The capacity and operation of this reservoir are

stipuJa ted in the operating principles recommended by the Policy
and Review Oommittee and approved by the Colorado Water Conserva-

tion"oard.

Diversion of water fran the Fryingpan River watershed lUluld

be accomplished through construction of a system of collection

tunnels and conduits to ,tap the tributary streams and convey the

wate~ to a central point on the Fryingpan ftiver from which the

,
water would be carried under the Oontinental Divide through the

Fryingpan-Arkansas Tunnel. This main tunnel would be about six

miles in length <md would have a capacity of 900 cubic feet per

second.

The imported water and native water of the Lake "ork of the

Arkansas River, to the e;<tent that equitable agreement can be reached
with the decreed water right owners, would be stored and regulated
in the Sugar Loaf Reservoir. This reservoir has a present capacity

of 17,000 acre-feet <md would be enlarged to ll7,OOO acre-feet.
At ma.xilllUlll capacity the reservoir would inundate about 1,550
acres with an earth fill dam about 140 feet high.
