f
,

BASIS FOR DETERMINATION OF 602(a)

STORAGE REQUIREMENTS

The Bureau of Reclamation for several years has been working on

the problem of developing procedures and a basis for determination

of the amount of 602(a) storage required in any particular year that

would fully reflect the consideration of all of the relevant factors

intended by Public Law 90-537. The material that follows is a status

report on our deliberations to date and hopefully will provide a starting

pOint for the study group to begin the more comprehensive analysis of

all of risks that must be weighed and presented to the Secretary for his

use in making the decision. We have tried to develop a check list

including such variables ranging from projections of Upper Basin

depletions to Lake Mead flood control objectives that are a dimension

of the risk involved.

~/
\~~
~\~
~~

.,~
