<br />002280 <br /> <br />303-27J-3~13 ESEE ':Si1 <br /> <br />781 PO] <br /> <br />I'JAR 31 "::j:' .:.:J:4'7 <br /> <br />ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT OF 1973 <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />When the Endangered Species Act comes before Congress for reauthorization in <br />October of 1992, it is anticipated that hundreds of small groups and several major <br />coalitions will be working to amend or kill the Act. <br /> <br />Some groups will want to change only one aspect of the law which has offended <br />them; others may want a more significant revision of its provisions. All will be seeking <br />pUblic and Congressional support of their positions. The ensuing activitY is predicted <br />to be "the fight of the century. " <br /> <br />This document presents the Nationwide Public Projects Coalition's strategy for <br />developing proposed amendments, but more importantly, for gaining the public and <br />Congressional support necessary for their adOPtion. <br /> <br />I. GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE <br />NATIONWIDE PUBUC PROJECTS COALITION <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Goal: We affirm the goal of the Endangered Species Act - that of preventing <br />the extinction of species caused by the activities of man. and believe <br />there must be a full nationwide discussion and debate of the purpose, <br />value and implementation of the Act. <br /> <br />Objectives: <br />. To present the issues of the national debate about the <br />Endangered Species Act. <br />. To promote full public discussion of these issues. <br /> <br />II. ACTION AGENDA <br /> <br />To insure the goal of a full nationwide discussion of the purpose, value and <br />implementation of the Endangered Species Act is met, the Nationwide Public <br />Projects Coalition seeks support of other interested groups to foster informed <br />debate. <br /> <br />The Coalition encourages and cooperates with public educetion programs <br />sponsored by other groups and assists with distribution of their materials. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
