Stolen lh:e~tock was held in the park while brand:-o <br />were changed and a herd of sufficient size accumulated. They were <br />then driven into Cluh for sale. It has been reported thut a~ many <br />as 100.000 head of cattle were ,....intered in thl! park at olle time. <br /> <br />Hobert LeRoy Parker. better known as "Hutch CUfisicl:v," was the <br />park's mOl'it famous out1a\',', Another was "Queen Ann" Bassett. <br />One of her many suitors and horn Dart, one of the wild west's few <br />:'\egro outlaws. were found shot by "party or parties unknown." <br />when the ranchers fillull:y decided the park would no longer be a <br />sanctuary for fustlerfi. <br /> <br />Outlaws were followed by small (.'attle ranchers. who gave way <br />to sheepmcn when the U. S. Fore~t Service broke the long-impo~~d <br />cattleman':,; bruarantee again~t woolics in the 1920's.
