GOt1uui

Browns Park (formerly called Brown's Hole) was once inhabited by Indians.
as evidenced by artifacts found in caves in the area. Fur trappers began
using Browns Park as a winter rendezvous point in 1826. and by the 1890's,
Browns Park had become a favorite hangout for several western badmen,
including the notorious Butch Cassidy.

Swans, geese. and ducks used Browns Park long before man. Elk, deer,
and antelope are also native; herds of bison. once regular visitors,
disappeared long ago.

Nature-oriented recreation is encouraged on the refuge. Fishing is
permitted in the Green River except in certain areas during the waterfowl
nesting season (March 15 to June 15). Public use facilities and access
routes are planned.

Thin~s for the Visitor to See and Do in Browns Park

Outdoor recreational opportunities in the mountainous area include hunting,
fishing. hiking, sightseeing. and wildlife photography and observation.

Refuge personnel will be glad to answer your questions.
