-i (

.

.

.

I'

6

In general. Green Mountain water releases are used to replace junior water
diversions when one of these senior water rights is placing a call on the
river. Junior water users located above Dillon Reservoir in Summit County
must provide augmentation water for the Denver Water Department's Dillon
Reservoir and Roberts Tunnel diversion system in addition to the downstream
Shoshone and Cameo calls. Water users below Glenwood Canyon need only provide
water for the downstream Cameo calls and other senior downstream calls.

On December 22. 1983. an operating policy was established which set aside
66.000 af of water out of the 100,000 af power pool to meet the demands of
historic agriculture and municipal beneficiaries of Green Mountain water. The
remaining yield from the 100,000 af pool. 28.800 af of water, would be
available for sale under long-term contracts. In May 1984, the Colorado River
Water Conservation District issued a request for potential contracts for water
from Green Mountain Reservoir. In response to this request, the River
District received responses from 29 potential agencies which expressed
interest in contracting for water from Green Mountain Reservoir. Table 2
summarizes the requests received for contract water from Green Mountain
Reservoir. Snowmaking and municipal/domestic requests represented
approximately 20 percent and 22 percent of the identified requests.
respectively. Irrigation represented about 6 percent and industrial (mostly
oil shale), about 52 percent of the total requests.

Table 2.
