Work under the completion contract in the power:Plant and switchyard is pro- gressing on schedule. Testing 01' Unit No.3 in the power:Plant was completed during the :first week in December, and the unit was placed in commercial operation on December 11, 1964. The 1'ourth unit, now Wldergoing tests, is expected to go into production the week 01' February 15. Installation 01' the remailling 4 turbines and generators is well underway. Work on Blue Mesa Dam, ClJRECANTI UNIT,is being continued on a reduced scale during the winter months, with the majority 01' the work being con- centrated on construction 01' the powerplant structure and channel improve- ment 1'or about 4,000 lineal. 1'eet below the damsite to give an extra 1'oot or two 01' e1'1'ective power head to the turbines. Full-scale operations will be resumed on the dam embaDkment as soon as weather permits in the s:pring. It is expected that the dam embankment construction will be completed by October 1965. More than 77 percent 01' the work on the dam has been :fin- ished. Major accomplishments during 1964 include the placement 01' 130 1'eet 01' embankment--leaving 230 1'eet yet to be 1'inished be1'ore the crest is topped-- and the virtual. completion 01' the concrete structures to serve as inlets 1'or the outlet works tunnel and the spillway tunnel. On January 14 a $llo,ooo contract was awarded to HUIlIphrey Contracting COr:Poration 01' Wichita, Kansas, 1'or clearing the Blue Mesa Reservoir area.
