....-oj
It')
l.~
"ooj

CHAPTER VI

SMALL DEVELOPMENT

Proj ect Plan

Plan C for the small development provides for irrigation on a lim-
ited scale, fish and wildlife, and recreation but does not include pro-
duction of hydroelectric power, Irrigation service would be provided
for 25,250 acres of land, including 7,490 acres of full service land and
17,760 acres that would receive supplemental service, All the project
land would be farmed in conjunction with existing units,

The small development would include land in the East River, Ohio
Creek, and Tomichi Creek areas, Features ~f the development are shown
on the map on the following page, Water of the Uncompahgre project used
under the development would be fully replaced from the Curecanti unit,

The water supply for the East River area would consist of direct
flow from the East River, return flow, and storage releases from the po-
tential Cement Creek Reservoir on Cement Creek, Direct flow would be di-
verted by the East River Canal which would extend west from East River
from a point about 6,5 miles above the confluence of the East and Slate
Rivers, Storage releases from Cement Creek Reservoir and return flow
from lands under the East River Canal would be diverted from East River
by existing canals and laterals, Some of the water would be used on proj-
ect lands and some would replace water presently used in the East River
area that would be diverted upstream by the East River Canal,

The Ohio Creek area would be served with storage releases from the
existing Taylor Park Reservoir, The water would be diverted from the
Gunnison River by the existing Gunnison Hip;hline Canal which would be re-
aligned, enlarged, and extended, Part of the water carried in the canal
would replace natural flows presently used in the service area of the
highline canal, thus releasing the natural flows for use upstream,

The water supply for the Tomichi Creek area would consist of stor-
age releases from the potential Elko Reservoir that would be constructed
on the creek downstream from the town of Sargents. Water from the reser-
voir would be released to the creek and then distributed to project lands
by the potential Crookton Canal and existing canals and laterals, Some
of the project water would replace existing natural flow supplies,replac-
ing these supplies for use upstream,

Laterals and drains would be constructed as necessary in all of the
land areas served, Recreational facilities would be providedo

41
