<::>
C'j
In
..;

CHAPTER IV

COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Power generated at plants of the Upper Gunnison project would be
transmitted to load centers over the Colorado River Storage project trans-
mission system now under construction. Additions to the system would be
made as necessary to accommodate the additional power.

Recreational facilities would be provided at all of the new project
reservoirs as well as at the existing Taylor Park Reservoir. Plans for
these recreational facilities are further discussed on page 28.

Estimated Costs

Construction costs of the Upper Gunnison project are estimated at
$41,603,800 on the basis of reconnaissance designs and January 1963
prices. The estimates include costs for additions to the Colorado Riv-
er Storage project system that would be required for transmission of
Upper Gunnison project power. ~hese are based on $100 for each kilo-
watt of capacity in the Upper Gunnison project. Cost estimates for var-
ious project features are itemized below.

East River Dam and Reservoir
Cement Creek Dam and Reservoir
Alder Creek Dam and Reservoir
Taylor Park Powerplant and switchyard
Almont Powerplant and switchyard
Taylor Canal
Baldwin Canal
Gold Basin Canal
Doyleville Canal
Hot Springs Canal
Parlin Flats lateral
Slate River Canal
Almont Power Canal
Gunnison Highline Canal
Lake Fork Canal
Laterals
Drains
Transmission facilities
Recreational development
Total

$5,700,000
1,250,000
1,500,000
3,245,000
3,150,000
14,572,000
822,000
1,090,000
680,000
1,250,000
336,000
1,133,000
1,960,000
540,000
512,500
398,500
531,200
2,220,000
713,600
41,603,800

Operation, maintenance, and replacement costs are estimated at
$178,600 annually on the basis of average wages and prices from 1960 to
1962. The costs include an allowance for increased operation, mainte-
nance, and replacement costs of the Colorado River Storage project sys-
tem made necessary by the Upper Gunnison project power development. ~his
allowance is based on $1.50 for each kilowatt of capacity in the Upper
Gunnison project.

20
