Yuma Auxiliary Project <br /> <br /> <br />The Yuma. Aux1liary Project, for many ;years referred to as the <br /> <br /> <br />Yuma Mesa Aux1liary Division of the Yuma Project, was authorized <br /> <br /> <br />under the Act of January 25, 1917. It originally included <br /> <br /> <br />45,000 acres of mesa land situated adjacent to the eastern boundary <br /> <br /> <br />of the Valley Division, Yuma Project. Financial Um1tations on the <br /> <br /> <br />initial construction reduced. this area to approximately 6,318 irri- <br /> <br /> <br />gable acres. Irrigation service was provided by a pump 11ft :from <br /> <br /> <br />the East Main Canal of the Valley Division, Yuma. Project. The Act <br /> <br /> <br />of June 13, 1949, :further reduced the irrigation service area to <br /> <br /> <br />3,305 acres and authorized the furnishing of water through facilities <br /> <br /> <br />of the Gila Project in lieu of pumping :from the Yuma. Project. With <br /> <br /> <br />completion of contractual arrangements and necessary physical <br /> <br /> <br />connections, initiation of service :from the Gila Project facilities <br /> <br /> <br />through the Gila Gravity Main Canal, the Yuma Mesa Pumping Plant, ' <br /> <br /> <br />and the "A" Canal was cOllllllenced July 6, 1953, <br /> <br /> <br />D. Gila Project <br /> <br /> <br />The Gila Project, consisting of the Yuma Mesa and Wellton-Mohav1t <br /> <br /> <br />Divisions, was authorized under the :finding of feasibility approved <br /> <br /> <br />by the President 'on June 21, 1937. The project was reauthorized by <br /> <br /> <br />Public Lav 272 on July 30, 1947. <br /> <br /> <br />1. Yuma Mesa Division. The Yuma Mesa Division is comprised <br /> <br /> <br />of the Yuma. Mesa and North 8lld South Gila Valley units. The Gila <br /> <br /> <br />Gravi ty Main Canal and Yuma Mesa Pumping Plant were completed in <br /> <br /> <br />1943. <br /> <br />9 <br />
