Of the total irrigated
acreage, 20 percent are Indian lands and 80 percent are non-Indian
lands.

Municioal and Industrial Uses

About 41,700 acre-feet of project M&I supply would be provided to
Colorado, and 38,400 acre-feet would be provided to New Mexico.
The supply for Colorado would include 8,200 acre-feet for the
Durango area, 1,000 acre-feet for the rural communities in the La
Plata River drainage, 6,000 acre-feet for the Ute Mountain Tribe,
and 26,500 acre-feet for the Southern Ute Tribe. The supply to New
Mexico would include 19,700 acre-feet for Farmington, 5,800 acre-
feet for Aztec, 5,300 acre-feet for Bloomfield, and 7,600 acre-feet
for the Navajo Nation. The supply for the Navajo Nation would be
distributed to the towns of Upper Fruitland, Nenahnezad, and
Shiprock.

Pro;ect Storaae

The project would store water at two reservoirs. Primary storage
would be provided at the 280,000 acre-foot Ridges Basin Reservoir,
an off-stream site southwest of Durango, Colorado. Of this total
capacity, 130,000 acre-feet is active, usable capacity. The
Durango Pumping Plant, located south of Durango near the Animas
River would lift Animas River water through the Ridges Basin Inlet
Conduit to Ridges Basin Reservoir.

I

Secondary storage would be provided at the proposed 70,000 acre-
foot Southern Ute Reservoir, an offstream site located on the
Colorado-New Mexico State line approximately 2 miles east of the
La Plata River. La Plata River flows would be diverted by the
Southern Ute Diversion Dam and conveyed to the reservoir in the
proposed Southern Ute Inlet Canal. Of the total capacity, 40,000
acre-feet would be active, usable capacity.

Total Pro;ect Water Suoolv

:.1

I',

~.,;'

f.

The total project water supply would average 198,220 acre-feet
annually with an average depletion of 154,800 acre-feet. This
number is based upon a 49-year period of simulated operations. Of
the total project supply 169,400 acre-feet would be developed from
the Animas River, 17,000 acre-feet would be developed from the La
Plata River and 11,800 acre-feet would be supplied by the reuse of
project return flows to the La Plata River.

;/
,"
':'-,:,1

:..~.
c-"

2
