Soils in the project area do not contain large <br />quantities of salts or concentrations of other materials that would <br />have adverse effects on ground water quality. The effects from <br />irrigation return flow would be limited to a small increase in <br />soluble salts and nutrients in subsurface drainage water, which <br />should not affect the quality of the existing ground water. other <br />constituents, including heavy metals, would precipitate out or be <br />filtered out as water passes through the soil structure. Some <br />flushing of these heavy metals could occur. More ground water <br />would be produced in the newly-irrigated areas, particularly in <br />bottom land, and would have water quality similar to existing <br />ground water.' <br /> <br />16 <br />
