,

~
.

"

~

.

-

.

-5-

In regard to a9cess roads to this dam, no final decision has been made. Blue
Mountain lies 011 th, South side of the dam. A road in that vicinity would be
high and scenic. H~ever, the gravel deposits are on the West side of the Green
rtiver near Red Cany~n and a road in that locality would connect several reservoirs
and their opetatingjcamps. These camps have not been finally located, and no
decision as y~t has'been possible.

Judge St~nethe. asked on what participating projects detail reports were ready.

Mr. Larson replied that detail reports were complete on the following projectsl
Pine River Extensiojil, Florida, La Plata and Hammond. No reports were yet ready on
South San Juan, SanjJuan-Chama and Shiprock projects. The report on the Dolores
project is 90iperce*t complete. Bids on the dam of the authorized Paonia project
were high and were tejected, and it was considered that this should be aparti-
cipating proj$ct, ~th exception of the Fire Mountain unit. The Collbran pro-
ject report has bee~ completed and is in the Secretary's office. Although this
project is self-liqlidating, it might possibly be included in the list of parti-
cipating proj$cts. )The report on the Silt project is near completion as well as
that for the Smith tork project. The 'Jest Divide project report is in the pre-
liminary sta3~. Re~ardinG the Little Snlike project, work is still being done to
determine a possibl~ site on Savery Creek, while the Pot Hook site is considered
sound. Reports on the Seedskadee and Lyman projects in Wyoming are complete.

He then.asked:for ~uestions or suggestions as to the proposed Colorado River
Storage project. . .

~,

Mr. Cla~de Meters asked whether work which had been done on the location of
a road from Attesia north to Echo Park, with a maximum grade of 7 percent, would
be of any value to ihe Reclamation Bureau in making a decision as to access. roads.

Mr. Lar$on st4ted that no road construction had been conSidered in that area.
The road must be cl4se to the gravel deposits, low and out of the snow, at the
power plant l$vel t~ facilitate the moving of heavy power equipment. However, all
suggestions WO.Uld bt carefUlly considered by the Bureau. Mr. },~ers then aSked if
there would be a ro4d on the dan. Mr. Larson said this would undoubtedly be a
part of a scenic hiihway, and questions of cost were involved.

Mr. O. P. a. inquired whether Echo Park had been selected as the fi.rst of
the series of,rese oirs. Mr. Larson explained that it. was the first to have
completed plai,ls, bull that now others were ready. Since. Echo Park is in a National
Monument, thequest~on of National Park Service approval of construction is a
factor.

i

1

;f~,,'~
, .,"'"
^i'n'-,:'lt'i!i
