October .3, 1949 <br /> <br />w~. George Pug~e, serving as chairman, introduced Judge Clifford Stone and <br />turned the meeting () rer to him. <br /> <br />Judge Stone introduced members of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, <br />U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, and other agencies represented at the meeting. <br />Various citizens of 'Colorado and Utah who were present were also introduced. <br /> <br />Judge Stone stated that he understood that a representative of the State of <br />California was present and asked him to introduce himself to the meeting. In re- <br />sponse, Mr. Dallas E. Cole stated that he represented the Colorado River Board <br />of California. <br /> <br />Judge Stone wel;comed the Piill'I1+fiI of Utah and mentioned the common interest. of <br />Utah and Colorado. He explained <tQl\t this was the first of a series of five <br />meetings authorized by the Colorado Water Conservation <Board., and that the purpose <br />of these meetings is to permit the Bureau of Reclamation to explain the proposed <br />"Colorado River StOI!!ge Project" to the people of areas in the State which would be <br />directly affected 1I;y the project. The views and recommendations of the local <br />people will guide t~e Water Conservation Board in making formal comments on the <br />report, and in meettmgs of the Basin States Committee. <br /> <br />He emphasized that the plan will eventually go to the states of the Lower <br />Basin for conSideration, but that at this time there was no necessity for any <br />representative of a Lower Basin state to be present, and no invitation had been <br />issued to any of suoh states. He stated that these were public meetings, how- <br />ever, and that }':r. Cole might desire to remain as an obserVer, but he should fully <br />realize that these were strictly Upper Basin meetings. <br /> <br />. <br />".1; ..{ <br />
