.~ .. .... -
1 J. ;",j

SOCIOECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS

..

Located within the acquisition boundary are the three small communities
of Weldona, Goodrich, and Orchard. Currently these communities have a
total estimated population of 250 with 98 occupied households. Eight
small businesses are operating within these communities. Little
change has been shown in any of the communities over the past decade.

In the surrounding rural areas, within the land acquisition boundary,

there are 133 occupied households with an estimated population of 475.
Of the total 231 occupied households, 40 are mobile homes. The majority
of the dwellings were built prior to 1939.

The Weldon Valley schools, located in Weldona, serve the majority of

students within the acquisition area.

During the 1981-1982 school

year, a total of 150 students were enrolled. Enrollments have declined

33 percent over the past decade.

Municipal and Industrial Pipel ine

The Morgan County Qual ity Water District began serving domestic water

suppl ies in the fall of 1978 to a 1 arge segment of the population in

the Narrows Reservoir area. The district has 99 customers in the

acquisition area served by approximately 90 miles of pipeline. It is

estimated that approximately 10 percent of the customers and 10 percent

of the water sale revenues would be lost to the district with the

construction of the Narrows Unit.

7
