WATER RIGHT - Catlin Canal (Otero County) <br /> <br />CASE NUMBER - <br /> <br />TOTAL ACRES - 19,000 ac, under the canal <br /> <br />TOTAL MOVED - 2097 shares of 18,660 - (11%) <br /> <br />% MOVED - 0% - All shares have been leased back to other shareholders <br /> <br />ACREAGE DRIED UP TO DATE - none <br /> <br />FROM - Individual Catlin shareholders <br /> <br />TO - Division of Wildlife <br /> <br />DATE - 1971 purchase; 1988 Decree denying transfer of the rights. <br /> <br />PRICE - $500 per share, no land purchased, $50 share commission paid to broker, Prior <br />sales had been at $265 per share, Possible cost, up to $15,000,000 to the State of Colorado, with <br />no ability to use the water for the intended purpose. <br /> <br />DECREED TERMS AND CONDITIONS - none; transfer denied. <br /> <br />(', -., <br />- } <br /> <br />AGRICULTURAL IMPACTS - Limited impacts because the water was never transferred from <br />the canal system. However, some lands that were irrigated with this water have beell dried up or <br />has a severely curtailed irrigation water supply and the water is being used in other lands. <br /> <br />ECONOMIC IMPACfS - cost to canal company to protect water rights <br /> <br />SOCIAL IMPACfS - Bitter division among stockholders that were sellers or non-sellers and <br />against the Colorado Division of Wildlife for the resulting expense caused the Catlin Canal Company <br />stockholders, <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACfS - None apparent. <br /> <br />COMMENTS - Water has been leased to other Catlin shareholders for $1820 net per year <br />on a 5 year lease. Division of Wildlife pays the assessments, which were $12 share in 1992 and <br />$14 share in 1991.
