" ~
ID
...-1

Rifle Gap Dam

The dam would be a fill of sand, clay and gravel rolled in

6.1 layers, with upstream slopes of 3:1 and .5:1 and a downstream

slope of 1.9:1 blanketed with a rockfill having slopes of 2:1

and .5:1. The upstream face would have a 20' berm at elevation

.587.5 above which the slope would be protected by 3' of rock

riprap. Maximum height of the dam to crest level would be 130

feet. Crest width would be 3.5 feet, length of dam 800 feet.

Cut-off under the dam would be effected by four trenches

having a minimum depth of 6' in the valley fill which is 12.5'

deep to bedrock. The spill~~y would be of the side channel

type with a fixed crest at elevation .5940. Crest of the dam

would be at elevation .59.54.

The outlet works v,;ould consist of a tUll..'1el 6'-6.. in

diameter in rock through the left abutment and a vertical intake

shaft with a lip at elevation .5382. A gate chamber housing a

3'-3" x 3 '-3" high pressure gate would be provided in the tunnel

near the center of the dam. Discharge from the reservoir would

be through a 39" steel pipe extending from the gate chamber to

the tunnel outlet where segment jet valves would regulate releases.

6.5
